Understanding Dark Sentences in the Land of Shinar: The Twilight Zone of Linguistics and Mathematics

And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full, a king of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences, shall stand up.  Daniel 8:23

Identifying the Scriptural Context of the land of Shinar

The Land of Shinar is first referenced in Genesis 10:8-10, when Nimrod began to be a mighty one in the earth. “He was a mighty hunter before the LORD:  wherefore it is said, Even as Nimrod the mighty hunter before the LORD.  And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel, and Erech, and Accad, and Calned, in the land of Shinar”.

The next reference to the Land of Shinar is Genesis 11:1-9, which follows the listing of the sons of Noah and the period after the flood.  These verses are almost parenthetical in this chapter, as they stop the flow of the narrative of the generations of men, to give an insightful account of the judgment of the tower of Babel.  Verses 6-7 say, “And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do:  and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.  Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech”.

In the late sixties and early seventies I attended the University of Washington during a period of time when student protests against the Vietnam War were prevalent.  One of the more highly read and discussed political commentators of that era was Noam Chomsky, the famed MIT linguist.  Fifty years later, Noam Chomsky is still given broad publicity of his views; for example, he was recently quoted as recommending that American voters should vote for Hillary Clinton as “the lesser of two evils”.

According to Kevin Devlin in his book, The Language of Mathematics:  Making the invisible visible (copyright 1998,2000-W. H. Freeman and Company), Noam Chomsky’s 102 page treatise in 1957, Syntactic Structures, transformed American linguistics from a branch of anthropology into a mathematical science (pg.88).  On page 91, Devlin notes that Chomsky used algebra to capture some of the patterns of language that we all share.  And in conclusion, on page 93 in chapter 2: Patterns of the Mind, Devlin notes that Galileo considered that “mathematics (is) the language of the universe“.

So here we find in modern American times, that the study of linguistics had been transformed after World War II, from a study of man into a mathematical study of grammar.  One of the foundational goals of  linguistics is to discover what the one universal language of mankind had been, prior to God’s confounding of speech in judgment against the prideful misuse of power in building the tower of Babel. As recorded in Genesis 11:4, these master builders had declared as their goal,  “go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven;  and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth”.

The third reference in the Bible to the Land of Shinar brings us to the book of Daniel 1:1-2, “In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim  king of Judah came Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon unto Jerusalem, and besieged it.  And the Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand, with part of the vessels of the house of God:  which he carried into the land of Shinar to the house of his god; and he brought the vessels into the treasure-house of his god.”

These vessels are later mentioned in Daniel 5, when king Belshazzar “made a great feast to a thousand of his lords” and brought out “the golden vessels that were taken out of the temple of the house of God which was at Jerusalem”.  In Daniel 5:4, “they drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood and of stone”.  It was during this banquet that “the finger of a man’s hand” wrote on the wall, MENE MENE TEKEL UPHARSIN. The interpretation given by Daniel was that “God hath numbered thy kingdom, and finished it.  Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting.  Thy kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and Persians“.  Note the use of numbering by God to set an execution date for his judgment against Babylon.  That very night, judgment fell.

The fourth reference in the Bible to the Land of Shinar occurs in Zechariah 5:5-11, where an ephah “that goeth forth” is described.  The description of this ephah given by the angel involves a talent of lead which is used as a lid, a woman that sitteth in the midst of the ephah, the epitome of wickedness, and two women with wings of a stork lifting up the ephah between the earth and the heaven.  In Zechariah 5:10-11, Zechariah asks the angel, “whither do these bear the ephah?” and the reply given is, “to build it an house in the land of Shinar: and it shall be established, and set there upon her own base”.

Because of the mention of the talent of lead, which in the modern world is used to contain radioactive substances, some believe that Zechariah 5:5-11 is a description of a nuclear device.  It was on July 16, 1945 that the first nuclear weapon was tested on the Trinity site in the United States of America.   Many Bible scholars believe that America is the modern-day economic Babylon portrayed in the book of Revelation. Perhaps the United States has now become the land of Shinar, where an ephah of wickedness was set upon her own base.  On the day of the first nuclear test, one of the designers of that weapon declared,  I am Death, the destroyer of worlds. Death had been unleashed with the greatest power mankind has known.  This quotation is also the match mate of the words, I am angel Sheva, the destroyer of worlds, portrayed in Indian art as a woman.

Since the first nuclear bomb was exploded on American soil, linguistics and mathematics have emerged as partners in altering modern life drastically. And during the last twenty years or so, these two studies have merged to explore a new line of inquiry into the words of God, and into the original language of man. The mind patterns of man are being altered as well.   The goal in this case is to discover a book of codes hidden in the words of God in the Torah. Thus the scriptures are being rewritten by mathematical techniques to produce a new book which reflects the voice and cunningness of a strange god.   Referred to as the Bible Code, or the Torah Code, the general analytical method involves selecting a center point in the words of God, and through equidistant spacing in several directions, discovering modern-day historical events, or future prophetic events.  (Wikipedia has an article, which gives a general overview of this approach here.)

The “Christian”  Promoters of Jonathan Matthew Wright- The Code Searcher

Douglas Hagmann on his radio show, The Hagmann Report, has had as a guest speaker on four occasions,  the Bible Code “expert”  Jonathan Matthew Wright of The CodeSearcher.com.   It is interesting to note that other websites, such as Right Wing Watch, which hold views contrary to Christian thought,  often display better discernment of the false prophets of today, than do these self-appointed Christian Watchmen of the alternative media.  In this article called Five Moments From 2014 That Definitely Were A Sign of The End Times, author Brian Tashman on December 22, 2014 mocked the Rick Wiles TRUNEWS interview of Jonathan Matthew Wright, The Code Searcher, who had determined that Obama is the Antichrist.  A sound bite of the actual TRUNEWS interview is found in that article.

Another writer who posts as the Progressive Secular Humanist on the Patheos blogsite, Michael Stone also commented on Jonathan Matthew Wright’s Obama analysis on October 16, 2014, in an article entitled, Bible Code ‘proves’ Obama is the Antichrist.  He discredits several features of Wright’s arguments in his interesting article.

While contemplating the twilight zone of linguistics and mathematics,  I came across an interesting book at the main Hattiesburg library here in Mississippi. It is called  The Bible Code:  A Journey to Judgment Day by Dan Harlap, printed by Equidistant Publishing in 2001.  (As a humorous aside, for  those of you who heard the sarcastic warning given by Doug Hagmann on his radio show around August fifth;  yes,  I live on the outskirts of Hattiesburg.  Doug Hagmann had advised some anonymous person,   “if you happen to be from Hattiesburg, for example, just turn this off and don’t listen because this is far above your intellect…”.)

Well, as I can read at least on the first grade level with full comprehension, I offer the following quotations from the first chapter of Dan Harlap’s book.  His views are well written, and offer several insights into the mind of a person who was drawn to the Bible Code methodology as a personal study. One of Harlap’s paragraphs was long, and I  split it into smaller sections for easier reading. Also I have added bold lettering to phrases used by Harlap which I find interesting.   As a background, the author explains that he is able to imagine a 3 dimensional matrix, as he has studied economic price charts extensively.

Excerpts from The Bible Code:  A Journey to Judgment Day, Chapter One “The End of Days”, pages 9, 12,13,14,16,17  by Dan Harlap:

(page 9) “It so happened that a few days later I switched on the TV just at a time when someone was speaking about the Bible Code.  It sounded fascinating and, being a spiritually oriented person, these comments made a lot of sense to me.  Something told me that a lot of information had been encoded in the Torah for me to decipher.  Three weeks later I flew to Canada via Amsterdam, and as I walked into the airport’s bookstore, my eyes spotted Michael Drosnin’s book The Bible Code.  By the time the airplane landed in Montreal, I knew my life had changed.  In Europe again, I delved into the subject, and a mind-boggling experience began to unfold.”

“When I first read the book and saw two or three matrices, I immediately noticed that the Torah is a text which had been written in three dimensions.”

(pages 12-13) “Training my mind to see price charts in three dimensions made it possible for me to visualize the Torah as a three-dimensional text.  In this way I am able to understand the position of the matrices in the structure.  Later, while thinking about the Dead Sea Scrolls, it occurred to me that perhaps the Essenes concealed the scrolls in the shape of a cylinder on purpose, to convey a message…..  It is possible the Essenes knew about the Torah’s being encoded and wished to convey a secret message by shaping the tests as three-dimensional cylinders.

The message is that, as the Torah was written in a continuous spiral of letters, a plethora of information is stored in multi directional cross-sections.  Thereafter, I realized that the Torah was actually written as a three-dimensional cone, not a cylinder.  I pondered about the graphical curved shape of the stone tablets with which Moses is depicted descending from mountain Sinai.  These tablets are shaped as if they were a section of a three-dimensional cone.  The sides of the stone tablets were straight, in parallel, but the curved tops serve as an indication that the stones are a vertical cross-section cut out of a cone.  In a cone, as the vertical cross-sections become lower, their circumference becomes larger.

Researching the Code, the higher we go in skip sequences, the fewer the number of lines the Torah contains, and the longer they are.  This observation supports my theory that God created the (page 14) Torah as a continuous spiral of 304,805 letters in the shape of a three-dimensional cone.  It is significant that a complex text such as the five books of the Torah was originally written in Hebrew without vowels.  In the Hebrew language, alternating vowels assign different meanings to a word.  Furthermore, when text is written without vowels and without spaces, a phrase can have more than one meaning. An exquisite example can be found in Exodus 6:22.  This verse contains three names, Misha’el, and Elzafan and Sitri.  And…(shows Hebrew).  God made sure that when this line is written without spaces, the line reads, “and they will inquire into the code and its mysteries, (Hebrew shown).”

“The Torah is known to contain five books;  Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy.  However, in reality, the Torah contains six books.  The sixth book exists of all the information that is encoded in the five books.” (author “proves” by showing matrix of the phrase “sixth book”.)

(page 16)  “The existence of the Code was already known hundreds of years ago.  Rabbi Moshe Cordevaro (1522-1570, known as “Ramak”) wrote in Pardes Rimonim: “The secrets of our holy Torah are revealed through knowledge of combinations, gematria (numerology), switching letters, first-and-last letters, shapes of letters, first and last verses, skipping of letters (dilug otiot, in Hebrew) and letter combinations.  These matters are powerful, hidden and enormous secrets.  Because of their hiddenness, we do not have the ability to fully comprehend them” (italics are mine).”

“The great teacher of the Ramban,…describes “73 ways to understand and interpret the letters of the Torah.”  Number 54   (page 17) is called “the way of skipping”.  As well, an example of encoding by equidistant letter sequences is explicitly mentioned in a commentary on the Torah written by Rabbi Backya in 1291 (chapter 1, verse 2).  Kabbalists taught us that God created the universe with the Hebrew alphabet.  According to Jewish mysticism, “The Torah has always been viewed by Jews as a map of all existence through space and time, standing outside and above it. The physical world is the Torah’s derivative, not the other way around.  And it is, in particular, the letters of the Torah that, in some mysterious way, are God’s agency for the world’s creation.” (Santinover, 1997)”.

One of the interesting things I noted in reading Dan Harlaps’ comments on the Dead Sea Scrolls being in cylinder form, is that years ago, as I was studying Magic Squares, I learned that the primary technique for solving these types of puzzles, is to imagine the square rolled as a cylinder.  In that configuration one can envision  the placement of the numbers upon the square, as a sort of diagonal spiral. Aside from being an interesting mathematical puzzle, these mathematical squares are used extensively in Magic, in the same manner as the Bible Code analysis uses the equidistant methods of Jewish Kabbalism.

A universal modern language is being laid down in current world history that represents the combining of linguistics and mathematical techniques for both determining the original language that once united mankind, and for overturning the pure words of God.  As mankind falls deeper and deeper into  transgressing against a Holy God, a king of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences, shall stand up.

Surely, the creation of a sixth book of hidden codes from the Torah represents a book of dark sentences, which this Man of Sin will open up and interpret to the amazement of all.  As the vessels from the temple at Jerusalem were used to praise strange gods, so the Torah will be profanely used  to praise the hidden prophecies of Satan. Perhaps the land of Shinar is the twilight world of linguistics and mathematics.

  1. this was the best yet !!! The original name of the area between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers later called Babylonia. It was there that Nimrod assumed kingship over Babel, Erech, Accad, and Calneh, and where construction of the temple-tower of Babel was aborted. (Ge 10:9, 10; 11:2-8) Later, the king of Shinar, Amraphel, was one of the confederates who took Abraham’s nephew Lot captive. (Ge 14:1, 9, 12) This territory was still called by its original name in the days of Joshua. (Jos 7:21) It is referred to by the prophets Isaiah, Daniel, and Zechariah.—Isa 11:11; Da 1:2; Zec 5:11 i believe is the place that the use of nuclear weapons would come from as pointed out by the angel when Zac ask where they were located.. to now compare this to new babylon is pure genius .. and is likely the case as i could easy make after you put Jer 51 into context with this. Mrs Weaver you are .. the classy writer of our times no one can even touch you.. your that good. Bravo. Mars. Host watchers prophecy news http://www.kdov.us

  2. Worth the wait. I find, more and more that while the Hagmann’s have probably just lost their way, and perhaps again, not discerning enough to realize it, many have noticed and have moved on. Myself included.

I don’t discount any or many of the very supernatural gifts of the biblical age as having been suspended, as many Baptists or other mainstream denominations do. And I am open to the idea of a greater supernatural past than most humans do, in general. I can say that I have a supernatural worldview. I believe in miracles and I believe God still talks to His people.

That being said, I believe the “Torah Code” is pure nonsense.

The Torah used today, and the oldest known complete collection, is what is known as the Masoretic text. It was fairly finalized by the second century AD by Pharisaical scholars. This is the version that the Torah Code researchers use. As I understand it, it is an amalgamation of several earlier texts, including the Septuagint, which is itself a (not always accurate or literally direct) Greek translation of an earlier text, translated back into Hebrew in some instances. There exists not one collection of Torah documents that preserves the original pre-second Temple text in its original form, much of which was written in an earlier form of Hebrew (different characters).

    So, what am I saying?

If the Torah Code is being derived from the Masoretic text, then it would be like finding a long preserved code in the NIV Bible. It is folly.

So all you folks in Hattiesburg keep on keeping on. Don’t worry what the guys at Coast to Coast, er…I mean…Hagmann and Hagmann think. I really do pray that they come to their senses some day.

    • Karl, when you present yourself as ‘Coast to Coast’ very little is demanded or expected. It is clearly put forward as entertainment so most people understanding this give them a tremendous amount of leeway. They can take it or leave it.

When you present yourself as “Christian Media” that features news and financial information and claims to be your “Family”, a much higher standard is expected. Christians almost take for granted that the guests have been properly vetted for integrity, do indeed have the expertise, experience and credentials attributed to them. Christians expect that what they are hearing is the truth. Therein lies the problem.

Everything hinges on the matter of trust. Some Christians demand integrity and this is why they have moved on like you have. The Exodus is far from over iMO.
