Sockpuppets for Christ

No man, when he hath lighted a candle, putteth it in a secret place, neither under a bushel, but on a candlestick, that they which come in may see the light.  The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness.  Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness.  If thy whole body therefore be full of light, having no part dark, the whole shall be full of light, as when the bright shining of a candle doth give thee light.  Luke 11:33-36

2 Timothy 1:7 says, For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind”. Now a sound mind, you would think, is an essential attribute of the Christian. Recently,  I was listening to a Hagmann and Hagmann internet radio show featuring Steve Quayle and Pastor Kyle.   I noticed that Kyle had restated his theological position that all Christians have demons and need to be delivered by a deliverance minister, such as him. Now the Bible testifies that there is such a condition as being possessed by devils, and I am not treating that subject lightly.  But closely connected to this Charismatic  theory which normalizes the demonic, rather than the human, basis of sin in the Christian life, is the common practice of the use of anonymous identities on the internet. But the fact remains, that when I sin, it is “I” that sins.   Sockpuppets ought not to be blamed for the troubles of the Puppeteer.

Those who have read the “About” page of this blog know that a number of years ago I came to understand that my youngest daughter, at the age of 14, had come under the attack of a strong sorcerous curse.  As a result of trying to protect her and identify the originators of this attack, I entered into spiritual warfare as I had not known before.  She was the one the attackers were targeting, rather than me directly, because  of her vulnerability.  As her mother, I stepped in the gap during that time frame in an attempt to turn her situation around.

But as a Christian who is realistic about the nature of mankind, I knew that there would come a day when my daughter would have to mature and take full responsibility for the fruit of her own sin, and for her belief or unbelief in Jesus Christ and the words of God. When that time arrived, she ignored sound counsel and found herself under the discipline of God, who then used the court system, evil friends and other events to reveal to her the depth and the truth of her own sin.  She and I have always remained close through it all, but the question the Lord posed to me was, How much does she want my salvation?

The simplicity of Christ is a wonderful thing, but to those who take careless advantage of the grace of salvation, I ask whether you regard your salvation, or that of anyone else, to be the precious thing that it is?  As I peruse the “Christian”  Alternative Media Network, there are two main descriptors which stand out, and neither describes a company of persons which the Christian should be associating with.  The first descriptor is 2 Peter 2:1-3, But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.  And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.  And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you:  whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.

The second is 2 Thessalonians 2:10-12 (which actually begins in the middle of a sentence, but which I am giving you the last part, for emphasis sake).  And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.  And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:  That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

Repeatedly I have discussed the deceptive practices, the merchandising tactics, the use of witnesses with false names and false credentials, false churches, and false theology of the Steve Quayle/Doug Hagmann inner circle of trust.  Outside of this inner circle are wandering planets of fake blogsites, which do nothing more than repost radio programs associated with this group, in an apparent attempt to flood out the search engine positions of lesser blogs which might oppose this mammoth powerhouse.  Two websites which accommodate this flooding of the internet with spurious articles and re-postings of the “Christian” Alternative Media propaganda are Before It’s and All News  The former site was created on September 15, 2007, using a proxy registrant; the latter on July 7, 2014 naming Susan Duclos of Helena, Montana as the registrant.  I was interested in a complaint made to the Ripoff Report against Before Its News which indicated that they had dealt with Stefan Stanford, who is, or was at one time, the boyfriend of Susan Duclos.  So it would appear that there is a close link between both news sites.

Many persons have suggested that this network was the creation of the CIA or some other government entity.  The constant use of secret so-called government insiders by Quayle, Hagmann, Hodges, Hawk and others has lent credibility to this argument.  And who listens to this stuff?  Blogtalk radio  provides a chat room,  and these alternative news sites allow for  comments to be made from their readers, so that there is a continual chatter which emanates from this section of the universe.  I have read hundreds of comments from these various sources, and I would guess that for every  thoughtful, sincere comment, there are a hundred which are nothing but drivel.  I have no idea whether the drivel comes from an empty soul devoid of thought, or from some troll who is deliberately toning down the maturity level of the comment stream.  What I want to address here is the situation where someone who most likely is a genuine believer in Jesus Christ, displays conduct on these comment forums, which is not consistent with the high calling of Christianity.

Now we all know that there are legitimate reasons why one might assume an anonymous identity while perusing the internet’s forums and chat rooms.  I am not going to go into those pro and con arguments.  My warning is directed to Christians who think that they can be Sockpuppets for Christ, and while operating under false pretenses, be a credible witness for God.

The following definition of a “sockpuppet” comes from various online sources such as Wikipedia, and together they define the various applications of this word, such as a fake identity used to make comments or additions anonymously, where anonymity hides someone’s vested interest or non-impartiality in the discussion.  Often multiple sockpuppets are used to create a dialog to promote an agenda.  Also some authors secretly write wonderful book reviews on their own books in order to deceive others into thinking that the review was made by an independent party.  A significant difference between the use of a pseudonym and the creation of a sockpuppet is that the sockpuppet poses as an independent third-party unaffiliated with the puppeteer.

A story which had been recently told me, is that a Christian, using several sockpuppets, joined in an informal alliance with another commenter who claimed to be an agnostic and a former NSA insider.  Together they attempted to out a Contributor at what I will term The TrashBin, by making baseless accusations that the Contributor was in fact an important person in the “Christian” Alternative Media hierarchy.  When I first heard about this, I countered with the Puppeteer, who I know, that this particular person under accusation, had never to my knowledge used a false name; and they would never have to, as they are publically quite bold in confronting their adversaries.  Well after a while,  the Contributor closed their account, and these collaborators rejoiced.  Then one day the Christian puppeteer claimed that through their sockpuppet witness and prayer, that the agnostic had reached an emotional lowpoint and was now reading the book of Genesis.  The puppeteer boasted of being a mole, and listed a number of their sockpuppet names, and said that the NSA insider had been greatly impressed by their skill.  Really?

So I read some of the former-NSA Insider’s comments and noted that this person had contributed 5 posts beginning around the time he was promoting his Kindle Book of his NSA experiences.  I bookmarked the most interesting post, which was a repost of an article written by someone else on identifying disinformation techniques.  A few days later, I went back, and lo and behold, the article had vanished.  This person has a long resume posted on Linked In, which sounds impressive enough.  However, the photo of this person shows his face in a Trashbin.  You know, like Oscar the Grouch on Sesame Street who lives in a trash bin, hoarding useless items, and hating humanity.  If you were serious about getting another well-paying job in your field, or even getting individual contracts as a self-employed person, would you advertise yourself with such a photo?  There is a Credibility Issue going on here with Christian sockpuppets and “former” NSA Insiders, which defies logic.  Why should I take a Sockpuppet for Christ seriously?  Why should I take the alleged repentance of a self-proclaimed NSA Insider to heart, if they continue by their words and actions to mock serious things?

Throughout my own Christian history, I have repeatedly run into persons, who taking advantage of my friendly openness, end up undermining my own witness because of their unseemly conduct.  One of the things that I have always stressed to friend and foe alike, is that when push comes to shove, I am on God’s side, and let the chips fall where they may.  Romans 3:4 states this rule as “God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightiest be justified in thy sayings, and mightiest overcome when thou art judged”.  Several times I have had to warn people who are trying to undermine something which needs to be said, to get out of the crosshairs!

Thinking on the cowardly aspects of Sockpuppetry, causes me to appreciate the real life examples of persons who place their own lives in danger just to do their jobs properly.  I cannot imagine the courage it takes to be the first man in a SWAT team which enters a house of armed felons.  Not only does that man have to face the adversary, but they have to trust that the man behind them does not accidentally shoot them in the back.  In general, the “Christian” Alternative Media network and their followers have done much to undermine the courage and credibility of genuine Christians who are engaged in real spiritual warfare.  Perhaps some of their followers, who did not originally intend to partake in those sins, should reconsider their actions, and step aside, out of the Crosshairs.
